Von Raji Sourani haben wir spätabends am 17.September 2013 die folgende Mitteilung erhalten:

“Dear friend
Do accept my profound apology not to be able to come. I just cannot make it, it is beyond my personal will. This is GAZA, this is the closure, this is the illegal and collective punishment for our people. I tried till the last minute to make it and it did not work very unfortunately. I have a good conscious, I tried my best but it did not work. Salamaat form besieged GAZA – Raji Sourani”

Raji Sourani gilt als Gazas führender Rechtsanwalt für Menschenrechtsfragen. Im Jahr 1991 erhielt er den Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award, 1985 und 1988 war er Gefangener des Gewissens von Amnesty International. Raji Sourani ist Mitglied der Internationalen Juristenkommission und Palestinian Centers for Human Rights.
Raji Sourani wirkte beim Russell Tribunal zu Palästina mit. Die Situation der PalästinenserInnen während der Jahre des so genannten „Oslo-Friedensprozesses“ bezeichnet er als Apartheid unter dem Dach des Friedens.
